“Banksy on Advertising I saw this earlier today... People are taking the piss out of you everyday. They butt into your life, take a cheap shot at you and then disappear. They leer at you from tall buildings and make you feel small. They make flippant comments from buses that imply you’re not sexy enough and that all the fun is happening somewhere else. They are on TV making your girlfriend feel inadequate. They have access to the most sophisticated technology the world has ever seen and they bully you with it. They are The Advertisers and they are laughing at you. You, however, are forbidden to touch them. Trademarks, intellectual property rights and copyright law mean advertisers can say what they like wherever they like with total impunity. Fuck that. Any advert in a public space that gives you no choice whether you see it or not is yours. It’s yours to take, re-arrange and re-use. You can do whatever you like with it. Asking for permission is like asking to keep a rock someone just threw at your head. You owe the companies nothing. Less than nothing, you especially don’t owe them any courtesy. They owe you. They have re-arranged the world to put themselves in front of you. They never asked for your permission, don’t even start asking for theirs. - Banksy” -

play0:00 / 2:34Banksy's views on advertising. What do you think?-
MustardBite Hello, folks. I’ve got to say I’m dreadful at art, moreover I don’t understand anything about it, so I don’t claim to be an expert or anything of that sort, plus I don’t long to come across as the smart arse on here… The thing is Banksy’s becoming a sort of pop brand, really. He definitely tries to advertise himself as much as it possible. Nowadays if it’s street art people talk about or even about fine arts in general; there’s always him mentioned in a sort of admiring way. A friend of mine says she’s been even shown a flick about him, in a class concerned about art, in an ordinary, comprehensive, Dutch school. He’s everywhere… Seeing him babbling something critical about advertisement is quite ironic, as his principal art tool is ad, to me at least. Don’t get me wrong, I do like his work, the black kid in a shabby t-shirt ‘I hate Mondays ’ and the smashed booth with an axe driven right into it are some of the most fascinating things I’ve seen in my life, I also agree with the most of his thoughts of advert. WOMEN, YOU ARE OLD AND UGLY! GO AND BUY THAT CREAM! MEN, YOU DON’T HAVE AS FLAT AND SEXY STOMACH AS BRAD PITT DOES. GO TO OUR GYM! This is all funny, sad and terrifying at the same time. However, Banksy’s become a part of it. He doesn’t need to be ingenious anymore. I bet it’d be enough for him to make people kick up a fuss by just drawing a cock on a wall. Advertisement’s evil, beware of it! Buy what you need, not what other people want you to buy. Cheers.

“So the first time you hear the concept of halloween, when you're a kid. Do you remember the first time you even heard about it? It's like, your brain can't even... "what is this? who's giving out candy? Someone's giving out candy? who is giving out this candy? Everyone we know is just giving out candy?? I gotta be a part of this, take me with you, I want to do it, I'll do anything that they want! I can wear that. I'll wear anything I have to wear. I'll do anything I have to do. I will get the candy from these fools, that are so stupidly giving it away!"” -

“Here are the lyrics: Wooo The horse is a noble beast From the mustangs of the west To the stallions of the east But the horse has a distant cousin It lives I-do-not-know-where But it's message of racial harmony is one that we all can share Hats off to the zebras They are black and white But they don't fight 'Cos they're not very good at it In a world of confusion We all need a sign If only we could live side by side Like the stripes down a zebras spine Hats of to the zebras, yeah The humble badger Takes a sip of morning dew He's totally colourblind So he can't judge you But the badger is a dreamer The badger has a plan He knows that his destiny Is to help his fellow man Hats off to the badger He is black and white But he doesn't fight Except for mating rights and territory Black man and a white man Both they need to shave United by the badger brush He's helping from beyond the grave Hats off to the badger What about the tapeer Half zebra half pig Imagine the stig-ma But the tapeer stands proud Hats off to the tapeer Badgers and zebras Skunks, oh yeah Little ring-tailed leemurs Living together in harmony And if the killer whales can do it, why can't we? Tell me why can't we? More lyrics: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/b/bill_bailey/#share” -
