174.715Facebook as a tool of consultation? Bob Kerslake right: His critics wrong!

“Something of an afterthought. I suppose this little kerfuffle re-inforces our view that the HM Government Code of Practice on consultations needs complete revision. There are lots of issues - but the use of social media is certainly one of them!” -

233.601Using Freedom of Information requests to check what happend in public consultations
about 1 year ago1330964111
“Listening again to the AudioBoo I recorded a few minutes ago, I realise that it would have been helpful to add that Richard was most unhappy with the results of his enquiry. The OCS even said that 'it held no information related to the findings; there is even email correspondence suggesting that the OCS did not have the resources to collate responses in one place. One wonders whether anyone would have bothered to submit their views if they knew that the Consultor wasn't going to analyse them properly. There is a real scandal lurking somewhere here - we need some more Caulfields or a few investigative journalists to prise it open” -

197.024Was the PM right only to invite friendly stakeholders to Number 10?
over 1 year ago1329783063
“Thanks for your response Kate (??) As you can imagine at the Institute we try hard not to be impartial on controversies where there will clearly be a range opinions. Instead I try to comment on 'process' aspects and in the Topic we published this week claimed that there are indeed circumstances where a selected audience ,might be okay. I think people have to make their own judgements as to whether the PM was justified this week - and if you were to look at our three scenarios you might well argue that these conditions were not met. But I would leave that judgement to you ... email sam@consultationinstitute.org and he will send you the full Topic paper ????” -

We first raised this as a potential problem over a month ago - look for our audioboo - "The feed-in tariffs consultation risks breaching the Code of Practice" maybe linked as a 'Related Boo' to the bottom right of this page. This is yet another wake-up call to those who organise public consultations ...” -
