I'm looking for pieces that are from 10 seconds up to about a minute or so in length but I could always cut something down from a longer recording. Also, I forgot to say, for more information on the wider project see: http://www.a2arts.co.uk/derivelab/ and click my name to read about my project specifically.
“Hi, my name is Chris. I'm an artist and cultural researcher and I'm trying to source interesting field recordings from locations across the world. I'm working on a project at the moment on alternative mapping and I'm looking to collect samples of ambient background sound from people in as many and as widely dispersed locations as possible. If there is anyone on audioboo that has something, either on or off the site, that they might be interested in contributing then please get in contact. What I need is short pieces of sound that could be posted on this site or emailed to me. I'm trying to collect samples from as many localities as possible.
The project that I am working on is called DériveLab and I am collaborating with artists from the UK, Germany, Italy, Japan and the US. The piece that I am working on involves the hacking of a satellite navigation device to become a platform to play a selection of ambient sounds from various locations, as I drive around London, I am transported by sound to locations across the world. I already have some nice contributions from artists but I'd like more sounds and more everyday locations from around the world. The work will be shown at Centre for Creative Collaboration, central London in June and I will credit any contributors. Please get in contact if you can help!”
did you receive my E-Mail with the recording you asked for?
Here's a transcript of what I say:
