The MoD has announced the deaths of three soldiers from The Royal Highland Fusiliers, the 2nd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland, in Helmand. Their next of kin have been informed. The three soldiers were travelling in a mastiff vehicle - long deemed one of the safest of all armoured vehicles - when it was struck by an improvised explosive device. They were on a routine patrol in the district of Nahr-e Saraj Helmand Province.
The BBC's Caroline Wyatt reports, and we speak to Lord Dannatt, former Chief of General Staff, and Lincoln Jopp MC, former commander of troops in Afghanistan.
