A new awards ceremony aims to highlight examples of bad grammar.
The Bad Grammar Awards is hosted by the The Idler Academy.
Tom Hodgkinson, editor of The Idler magazine, told the Today programme's Sarah Montague that, after receiving articles written for his magazine containing numerous examples of the use of bad grammar, he "started finding it quite annoying".
"It's a very good idea to train people into understanding their own language," he said, explaining that the awards were designed to shine light on the misuse of grammar in modern society.
Michael McCarthy, emeritus professor of applied linguistics at the University of Nottingham, said "I think we should be concerned when things over-step certain marks but... English grammar... is actually a plurality of grammars."
"There are dialect grammars and there are also grammars for texting," he said.
