As part of the Today programme's series about men, Beatrix Campbell, Tim Samuels and Laurie Penny debate how the place of men in society has changed.
Laurie Penny told John Humphrys: "Society can't let go of this violent powerful dominant stereotype that has actually never applied to the majority of men."
Beatrix Campbell said: "Men appear to want to rule the world, to rule each other and women."
But Tim Samuels argued that "men have undergone an enormous journey. In the last 50 to 100 years we have become more emotionally articulate."
