A common made mistake: Prostitution isn't only legal in Amsterdam. It's tolerated (not legal, but that's another story) in the entire country. But that's not the point, I know. But I think he should pay for it himself, because other people do to. He might be disadvantaged, but like you said yourself; an ugly person is so too. Another discussion point; I think prostitution should be legal in the UK too because that way you control it, plus you can tax it (which they can't yet in the Netherlands I think, because it's only tolerated) and I believe the women trade will go down (most girl decide to become a prostitute). I live in the Netherlands myself and I don't really mind them being there, if you don't want to see them than don't walk through that street. That's roughly my opinion about it.
Aren't there prostitutes in England? it would've been a lot cheaper, and he would have got the experience. Why make people pay for someone that wants to sin? I don't mean to get Religion involved, but on my behalf, i wouldn't like to pay for someone so they could sin. and as i said in one of the previews boos, Karma happens. If someone is ugly, cannot find a partner or whatever, they are going to be rewarded later for being able to stand the pressures of life. life is unfair, but paying for something like that is just ridiculous. I would automatically pay if it were for a rehab center, a shelter home, helping for research in cancer, helping unemployed people to live a better life. but on a personal level, i don't think that sex could make someone's life better, especially with a prostitute.
After giving this a great deal of though I have come to the conclusion that no, I don't think that the government should pay for prostitutes... read Summer1539's and GeekoftheRings' (awesome name btw) reasons, so that I don't have to write it all again.
and Melissaobama12... Making things illegal to try to put an end to them is not pathetic, just because something is legal doesn't make it right... I'm sorry but I just can't understand how you're thinking.
Hey Myles, Interesting questions...I do not think Sex is a human right - if you are lucky there is one or more people involved and it’s consensual. I don’t think the one persons desire should be thought of as a human right - as then it impacts the other people involved, sorry I realise I’m not explaining my thoughts very clearly, in the extreme I’m thinking rape would not ever be prosecuted if it was a human right...and that would mean so much pain and suffering that goes without reprimand. Responsibility for ones actions would go out of the window, also you can’t really put an age limit on a human right can you? It’s your right only if you are over 16? In answer to the second question which was about what the tax payers money is used for regarding human rights, I cant argue that yes some of my tax should go to helping those who are unable to help themselves and I guess that’s where human rights come in, and if I am totally honest I would rather pay for that 21 year old man to get laid than pay for some 80k a year politicians second home in Mayfair which he put on his expenses. Great question thanks.
I can't imagine how sex is a right. Sure, people have the right to have sex if they want to and with whom they want (so long as they're willing, that is.) But when I think of a "right" I think of something someone is entitled to, something someone deserves. I believe people deserve to have such things as equality (everyone should be treated the same, no favorites, no exceptions), life necessities (such as food, water, shelter, medicine, and so on), freedom of speech (without this freedom, I wouldn't be able to say what I'm saying now), freedom of religion (it's a personal choice, not something people can make for you), and I'm sure there's more, but I think I'll stop listing things now. Sex, however, isn't a right. It's not something people are entitled to. It's not something people deserve. If it was, then rape wouldn't be wrong. If someone deserved sex, then they should be able to take it. It would be their right to do so. But rape is wrong because sex is not something people deserve. They don't have that right. Because I don't believe sex to be a right, I don't believe it is something that should be paid for by the government. This guy you talked about might not have been able to have sex without paying for it, but since I don't think it's a right, the government should not have paid for it. He could have, I would have had no problem if he had paid to go to Amsterdam so he could hire a prostitute. Because that would be his right to do so.
I'm not sure if any of that made sense. It might just have been a long ramble. Sorry if it was.
i dont mind funding human rights at all. i think he did have the right to go have sex with a prostitute and have it be paid by us. I mean if that was your brother or dear friend or coworker; and they really wanted to have sex wouldn't you want the same human rights for him or her? Plus by funding these sort of things, i think there might be less rape and sexual harassment. Actually I think prostitution should be legalized and so should every kind of drug. if someone wants to mess their life up, they are going to no matter what the government says. If theres a demand for something there will always be a supply. So by making things illegal to try to put an end to them.... is kind of.. um, pathetic.
