Police have released images of the injuries sustained by an 81-year-old robbery victim as part of a public appeal to trace her attacker.

Isabel Skeldon, from Mansfield, was walking along Edward Avenue, in Sutton-in-Ashfield, at around 1.15pm on Monday 6 September when a man assaulted her and snatched her handbag.

She sustained a fracture to her right upper arm, and cuts and bruising to her face and hands, and is currently receiving treatment at King’s Mill Hospital.

Mrs Skeldon, who was on her way to visit her 89-year-old sister when the attack happened, may now require surgery for her fractured arm.

Her handbag, which is black and around 5ins by 3ins with a long shoulder strap and a metal clasp, contained her purse, with an unknown quantity of cash.

The attacker is believed to be a white male who may have left the scene in a red car in the direction of Priestsic Road.

Detective Inspector Martin Putnar, of Sutton CID, said: “This was a frankly despicable and cowardly attack by the standards of any criminal. This individual has targeted a vulnerable elderly lady and left her with some very nasty injuries, and they must be caught.

“I would urge anyone who saw or knows anything about this appalling crime to contact us as a matter of urgency. Similarly, if anyone recognises the description of someone they know, or even themselves, as a white male with a red car who was in this area at the time, I would encourage them to come forward too in order to eliminate themselves from our enquiries.”

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Sutton CID on 0300 300 99 99, ext 806 3636.

Alternatively, they can call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
