Thanks for all your comments (and apols for delay in responding, been unweel). I will try the Gravity app, but since what I really need to be able to tweet from is the #NASAtweetup of the next shuttle launch, I'm sort of biding my time before I start the trial... :) Interesting to see that Rory Cellan-Jones also found the UI fiddly... it's not just me!
I can understand your frustration. If you are new to Symbian phones the interface is not that straight forward. However, for someone like me who has tried out a lot other devices, most of the things you ranted about are really non issues (except for the inbuilt twitter and facebook app... which suck). Gravity is a must if you are going to be tweeting. Also Nokia has so many shortcuts and ways of getting to things than any other phone I have used. If you didn't get it from the beginning, then yes they probably need to work on the UI, however, for someone like me it does all I need and some
I hear you on the inbuilt twitter app... Its basic and lame.
Re Gravity, what you were told is bang on, it is the best. What they maybe didn't tell you though, is there's a 10 day trial version of it, which would have been perfect for you and the loaner ;) Still, if you still have it.. maybe that would change your thoughts a little.
Re 4Square, I've had that time issue too... not just on the N8. Gravity would have sorted that again probably.
Sounds like the issues are more to do with your set-up, rather than lack of phone quality? But as you say, not intuitive if you cant use it is it.
And what self respecting geek travels without a multi tap plug point ;P... and Bunk beds! WOAH!
