@Manisha I guess what I'm trying to say, is not that people believe everything the media says... but they will 'feel' everything the media says. And in the cases of school shootings, poppy burnings etc - the public feel angered/sad about this rare tragic events... which have been implemented to engage with the masses via the papers.
Media does have power, so true. But people around me( as ive noticed) don't blindly believe everything the media says. Its a fact that true or not ...we are watching it anyway! Which i think is necessary, i mean, even if its people doing something wrong....should we not know what the wrong is thats happening right? How would we correct it otherwise? The only problem i have with the media is the hype added to a lot of truths. Say it as it is. Why feed the viewers the "IF" and "But"s? Repetition is something that works on the human mind. Repetition is how a lot of the media gets by. Be it its message or purpose. The only way the Media can change if if the people heading it do.
This is such an interesting subject. The media has so much power. It has this power because a lot of people take everything written in a paper, or said in TV, as 100% fact. That means they have to power to influence, and as it is with us humans we find it more interesting to hear about disasters and such. For them it means better ratings and more money.
Also, just an interesting comparison; most modern reality series. You have stuff like Teen Mom and Jersey Shore that get insane amounts of viewers and all it's all trash and people being idiots. But too many people would watch that instead of something more "positive".
