Don't listen to the haters. I'm sure many people have said this to you, but so many admire you because what you do is incredible. So many people love you, it doesn't matter whether your video is high quality or not. I promise you, you make so many people happy you should be really really proud of yourself. That sounds very patronising, but it's true. Besides, everyone has haters but there are so many more people who look up to you, you don't need to worry about them. Of course your videos will be remembered, only for the good things. It hasn't seemed as though you are fading out to be honest. Whenever you make a video, it does make me really happy but from my point of view, it doesn't feel as if you're fading out at all because a lost of your videos such as 'You're not alone' are ones that can be watched repeatedly. To be quite honest, I'm not sure you could ever fade out if you tried.
I'm sorry that is all over the place but I was typing as I was listening otherwise I always forget what I was thinking and end up listening about 5 times then giving up. :) Katya x
You know, I actually only ever discovered your creative endeavors, this past stickaid. I have only ever watched one or two of your youtube videos before, but I've listened to probably 70% of these audioboo-podcasts. So, perhaps you have faded compared to the past-- I haven't followed you long enough to make that judgment. But, personally, I've interacted with your endeavors in the past few months, when I didn't even know who you were last year. You have become more vibrant to me, and not at all faded.
I've just recently started making videos on Youtube, and I know how you feel being scared. I have before gone through the entire process of making a video, only to scrap the entire thing because I rarely find it as funny/impacting/cohesive as I did when I first thought up the idea. And then there's the factor of-- who will really care? I mean, I think to myself, I have a handful of subscribers right now. I doubt any of them really care whether or not I continue to make videos. You probably think to yourself, I've been away for so long and I've faded, will they even remember me; will they even care? And so it stops us from making videos. Because, material created for YouTube is, in its inherent nature, material begging to be interacted with, it is about that response, and if you're anything like me, it's that response which you fear. Because if we don't post the video then we can't get those negative comments; then there can't be an utter lack of response
The videos I end up posting are ones I have enjoyed making. And at the end of it, though I have doubts about its reception, I have made something I am proud of. It's something I think funny, or thought-provoking; something I told friends about as I was making it. And most importantly, it's something that, if in five years it is brought up to question, I can stand behind it and still be proud of it, whether or not it will still be an accurate depiction of me and my thoughts.
Myles, you always focus on other people, on helping them and interacting with them. But, your most recent tweet confirms what I've been concerned about for a little while now-- that your head is just above the waterline. Myles, you need to sort out yourself, first and foremost in life. If making YouTube videos has been a safe place for you in the past, if it is something that makes you happy, then Myles, you NEED to make YouTube videos. Not for the response from people. Not for any reason but to keep your head above that water, Myles. Just keep your head above that water.
Look, yes it is true that your channel has faded into the background slightly over the past year, but Stickaid is still fresh in people's minds which showed you are a beautiful person and that you are still a very special part of youtube.
You have 36,000 subscribers who would all love to see you make regular videos and I know you'll be welcomed back with open arms when you go back. I'm sure you will be able to, if you wish, forge the links with the youtubers who you feel have forgotten you. It'll take confidence and bravery and hard work but I know you have all of those qualities so you should bite the bullet sooner rather than later. DO ITTT!
oh i so agree with JodieWhoSails, and your videos should be something like your boos....like don't ferret...sometimes you just need to wing it. Go with the flow...give it try...you're getting me right? Its like...how are you gonna know if its gonna be good if you dont TRY. Thats half the battle right there!
Whatever it is...hope you know you still have Us. :D <3
It’s a sunny, Sunday afternoon in Melbourne (5.53pm) when I tuned in, so sleep is not an option YET! I remember feeling like this when I started working. My friends were starting to hit the clubs and do the party scene, something I’d already done a few years earlier than everyone else thanks to people I mingled with. I remember wondering what happened to my life, questioning why things were changing and where everyone was going. Was I moving away from them or were they moving away from me?! The truth of the matter was, we were all changing and thank goodness we did. My crystal ball must have been cracked at the time, because if I’d been able to see what was coming around the corner, I think I would have “run” a little faster toward it.
So, you are the Myles Dyer brand. What do you want to be as a brand? You can’t be a Charlie, because he’s cornered the “boy next door” market. You can’t be an Alex because he’s snagged the “critiques” market. You can’t be a Shane because he’s cornered, well, I’m not sure how to define that one! But you get my drift. If you can define yourself, you might find it easier. Your definition can change too, brands can evolve and often go through changes.
You are definitely in a transitional period. Try not to be overwhelmed by it, you need to embrace it. My personal opinion, you should do more videos, but similar to what you do here on Audioboo. You have a great way of expressing yourself (you are told this a thousand times, over and over) and I can see you touch a lot of people’s hearts by the responses you get. No brainer, I know!! I think you get the most hits when you are Myles Dyer the thinker (sarcastic or sincere, it all works). I hope that helps a little.
