In our country the government is taking the same measures. The art and culture is cut severely back. last sunday we had "the netherlands cry out for culture" In the bigger and smaller cities there were gatherings and in a positive way for our culture. A lot of well known people in the netherlands participated. What of course helps. They have short films from actors/musicians/tv-presenters where they all scream, very funny, and of course posters with screaming people on them. "nederland schreeuwt om cultuur" it's called in dutch you should watch it very funny! what do I think of all this, I understand what has to happen. In some way I hope it turns out well. That only the very good "art" survives. Not the expensive modern ugly crap, what only hangs in rich persons houses. That somehow persons like me and classmates will find their way into recognition. But we can only hope it will work that way. If not, in 10 maybe 5 years, it eventually be fine with the economy again. And we complain about a lot less important stuff. because that is what we do and know. We always want it to be better, and that's okay. Sometimes we have to put things aside for it to get better. They are not doing it in a very smart way, but the people in our government are just wimps. Half of them do not know what's best for our country, and the coalition is shit. They are just trying to cut back whatever they can. It is sad that art and culture is cut back, but is that a primary need? what I said it will get better we probably just have to deal with it for now. I know that my time will come. Try not to listen, and avoid tv, newspapers and the internet news sites, that's what I do. Because it will only make me angry and that's a waist of time. The best solution I have for myself is to find new land and start my own country.
cuts in the creative field....yeah i know!...my college has stopped the Fashion designing course this year.....im out but new students were let down. i haven't the slightest clue as to how Fashion Designing can help my country but designing is my passion. designing is a big area so its difficult to categorize what i enjoy designing the most...any randomness basically. Its fun to design something people might have never seen before. Ive only just stated and i know i have a long way to go till i reach where i want to be...in my field...right now...people can make it only if they've got the money.... But ive got my ideas and ideas are bullet proof..... thank goodness for that! :D
I've just watched the YouTube video and I thought it was brilliant, completely agreeded with everything you said, you should be proud of it ^.^. I really wanted to post a comment but my YouTube account isn't letting me sign in for some reason, so I'll put it all here. I am passionate about art, mainly fine art, sculpture and jewellery making and silver smithing. For a few years I attended small art classes at a local art gallery, as I was home educated so didn't study art in school. I gained a huge amout from is, as my teacher was hugely inspirational. They offered all sorts of creative classes and workshops for everyone and anyone, it was a really good building block if you were interested in anything creative, and I produced some of the best work I had in ages while I was there. Never before had I come across an enviroment that was so inspirational to be in, and the people so friendly and open minded, and I ended up volenteering there. Sadly the gallery was shut down when the council stopped funding them.. It was really sad for everyone involved.. It felt like they had no understanding of what we were trying to acheive and how important art and the gallery was to the local community, as there was nowhere else that was offering anything quite like what they were. It was 'just art' to them. So I guess thats my experience of funding cuts on creative industries, and yeah, I really think that the governments needs to be told, or reminded, just how important creative industries are.
I'm now working towards becoming an art therapst. The dream is to set up a business with a friend of mine who is studying to become a drama therapst, offering a veriety of creative workshops, classes and one to one therapy sessions, mainly for the mentally ill, but also for anyone whos going through a difficult time, because creativity can be a huge help and even a cure, as it has been for me in the past. So thats what I want to offer to society through the means of creativity.
And now I've writen way too much.. xD. Best of luck on this, hope you can open their eyes. x
