It's called Krav Maga and it's more of a fighting system than a true martial art, to be fair. I was intrigued by it for a while before I started after watching a Fight Quest episode on it - it looked really scary, in a face your demons sort of way, but very practical. It focuses on dealing with multiple opponents, on getting the mental attitude to fight and survive, that everything is a weapon. All the stuff that is normally banned in a sport martial art (eye gouges, finger breaks etc) are high priority targets. It's not pretty, but it does the job :)
Glad to hear you survived your first night back! I can imagine it was tough after being ill for so long. That's too bad your game is a disappointment. So far I can recommend the P90 program - it's more intense than any other exercise I've ever done. But it's expensive and it's monotonous, or it will be, I'm sure, once I've been doing the same thing every day for months on end. Right now it's an incredible challenge.
So, how did you get started with this particular form of martial art? What is it's full name, so I can google?
Nice, nice nice!! I became fully hooked to running outdoors this time last year while on a quest to lose 30 lbs. (lost 25 and kept them off, and going for 10 more this year). I adore the solitude and the time I have to work through my fiction stories or moving pieces through dialogue, all while I run. Exercise for me is a way to manage stress, I am not interested too much in how I look (you know, relatively speaking...I'm not a slob or anything), but I have problems physically if I don't find a way to manage stress (insomnia, and a weird eye fluid condition called Central Serous Retinopathy--you can google it; it's very weird). So...good job!
That's its origins, yes, although I probably should point out I'm learning the civilian version ;)

Just read the wikipedia article - the fight training of the Israel Defense Forces?? That is badass.
