This is a really a great thread. And to me it's so interesting to see such a range of ages participating and communicating on this level.
Last night I listened to a presentation by a Grandmaster in Martial Arts and Qigong. He is a relatively young man for his accomplishments. I mention this because he made a point about energy that I think is applicable to this conversation.
He said the whole purpose (from his perspective) of Martial and Qigong training is to raise the 'energy' to a point where the practitioner becomes a host that is "inhospitable" to illness. Basically he said that accelerating the energy changes the resonance to the point where lower vibrational patterns can not exist - sort of overridden.
Without getting into a big philosophical discussion, my point is similar to what the bookwright said, " the speed of consciousness changes leading to a difference in perception".
Time is a creation of the human mind. The universe itself and ENERGY is limitless. The only thing limited is our perception of it. Somehow I know that it all happens at once.
On some level, I think our perception of experience is function of phasing in and phasing out of being fully present - or fully conscious - (and not in the mental sense) at any given time. Most of our perception is not cerebral. The universe doesn't use clocks. People do.
Anyway I guess what I am trying to say is that the more conscious we become, the less we are aware of time.
It only gets quicker as we slow down. Do more, think more, meditate daily and it will slow down again and you will get more done. You can even learn to bend time and make it stop or even go backwards - it simply is not as fixed as we have been accustomed to believe. This visualisation on AudioBoo is one of the techniques you can use -
I'm noticing a lot of "since then is longer than before then" situations as I get older. I'm getting very, VERY close to 40 and a fair portion of my life feels like it was only a moment ago. Almost as much of it, though, seems quite distant. I'm not sure how to characterize it, really, but I thank you for nudging my mind onto this interesting track of contemplation.
My mother always told me "By the time you'll be 18 you'll see that time passes by so quickly." I'm 18 and I do feel that. I'm going to be 19 this year and I feel like I'm growing very quickly. When we feel "forced" do grow up. I think this is the way we feel. Being responsible.
What happens is that the speed of consciousness changes leading to a difference in perception - great book by Steve Taylor called Making Time that explains it - http://www.tomevans.co/2011/04/09/making-time/

Glad I found this discussion. Got to run...
