Finally made time to check out Brian Eno's digital art/music exhibit 77 Million Paintings at the @glenbowmuseum yesterday. I sat in the silent, dark room - lit only by the ever-changing art - for nearly half an hour before I was finally dragged away.
I decided to record a short snippet of the silence in the room. The atmosphere was incredible - everyone sat silently watching the images evolve, listening to the gentle, ambient music. The voices you can hear are people walking by, taking in other exhibits. It's amazing that art can have this kind of 'quieting' effect on people. Or perhaps the darkened atmosphere and soft music simply lent itself to less to introspection and more to silence out of respect, like walking through an ancient cathedral.

Either way, I thought it was beautiful and interesting and worthy of sharing. The recording is very quiet so I'd suggest headphones :) For more info, check out http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/arts/brian-enos-mind-altering-experience-in-calgary/article1859735/
