Steve Merike is a fine example of one of the first breed of presenters who enjoyed the journey from pirates to present. From Forces radio through to Radio Scotland and Caroline; before graduating to a new Radio One. There, amongst other shows, he famously hosted the breakfast show in place of Tony Blackburn for an extended period. Off then back to the pirates and to dramatic days at Radio Nordsee International.
Steve sings too, and has released singles - besides using his vocal skills on much inventive radio production. Whilst Steve has some BBC local years under his belt at BBC Leeds and Brighton, commercial radio is where he spent most time. He was part of the launch day on LBC, and of the early days at Pennine and PIccadilly.
Trent is where he spent most time, best remembered for hosting afternoons and lates, which best displayed his engaging style. A politician and lecturer, Steve remains active - and always doing new things.
