So the MD46 works fine, but produces slightly lower recording levels.
I could not get a Sennheiser MD421 to work.Must look into this.
The ME64 and ME66 both worked on the iPhone 3GS but there is some interference affecting recordings. Probably from a power supply. Curiously, the ME64 worked on the older iPhone 3G.
