Most internet connections are designed to be really quick at getting stuff ~off~ the internet and slow (often less than a twentieth of the speed!) at putting stuff ~on~ the internet. This is because the vast majority of a home computer's time is spent downloading - uploading is considered 'secondary', which is why it took so long for your video to upload.
HD video is pretty-much the biggest file format (per minute) of anything you could send to the internet, so the file you've been sending is probably pretty huge. Patience, unfortunately, is the virtue of choice here.. I'm looking forward to seeing your first YouTube video, though!
