Latest on Foundation Programme Applications 2012
The UKFPO has announced that there will be 81 more applicants that posts when allocation to the Foundation Programme (FP) is run on 8 December 2011.
The Medical Students Committee (MSC) has made it clear that it is unacceptable that for the second year running, there is a risk that a UK graduate might not be allocated a Foundation Year 1 post, a necessary part of completing training and achieving full GMC registration. For the last few years the BMA has been negotiating and lobbying successfully to ensure that no eligible UK graduate leaves medical school without a Foundation Programme training post, and we will continue to work with all stakeholders to ensure this happens this year. We will also be writing to the Secretary of State for Health setting out the MSC’s position in no uncertain terms.
During our regular discussions with the UK Foundation Programme Office (UKFPO) and others about the Foundation Programme application process, we made it clear that regular and timely communication is required especially with regard to applicants placed on the reserve list. We will of course be underlining this point again in all our dealings with the UKFPO and requesting that clear guidance is available as soon as possible.
In the meantime, further information is below about what this means for UK graduates and what the BMA is doing to ensure all eligible UK graduates get a place on the Foundation Programme.
