Batman's philosophy

I'd like to think that Batman's true motive is to live up to his father's ideals. His father was a doctor and a great philanthropist, so it's only natural that he would want to live up to that, and since he feels guilty about his parents' death, there's probably an even greater need within him to meet those expectations.

As far as what church Batman goes to, I wouldn't think Batman to be very religious, but with that said Batman does hold on very strongly to his decision to never kill anyone, and for some reason that reminds me a lot of the thing Jesus said: "Forgive them Father, for they do not know what they do." And so by trying to capture his criminals and locking them up in Arkham, it's like him saying "These guys are doing bad things, but they just don't realize it." Even though most of them probably do.

Then again, the whole not killing thing could also be his own version of the Hippocratic Oath. Whereas doctors swear to ethically practice medicine, Batman swore to ethically uphold the law, and thus, chooses NOT to kill but only capture his enemies.

In any case, I think I've babbled on long enough. I'm stuck at work and it's boring and I've just started playing Batman: Arkham Asylum, so I'm in a Batman kinda mood. :b
