Work and Pensions Secretary Iain Duncan Smith has defended the £26,000 cap on benefit payments to families.
Speaking to Evan Davis, he said he did not believe it would lead to an increase in child poverty.
“At £26,000 a year it is very difficult to believe that families will be plunged into poverty,” he said.
The benefits cap will mean families are “not trapped in benefit dependency” but will be “moved from their circumstances”, he said.
