Mona El Tahawi on why does Middle East hate women

Why do they hate us? The question's been posed by the Egyptian American feminist and activist Mona el Tahawi --and it could be rephrased as "why does the Middle East hate women?" In her article for Foreign Policy magazine, she argues that more than a year after the first wave of the Arab spring, women across the Arab world, still endure humiliating virginity tests, genital mutilation and fewer rights under the law. I brought Mona Eltahawi together with Saudi born academic, Professor Madawi Al Rasheed, of Kings College London. I began by asking Mona El Tahawi why she'd chosen to write this article now?
