Remarkable footage showing one species of whale apparently protecting a second species from attack by a third species has been filmed for the BBC's Planet Earth Live series. It happened off the coast of California, in the Monterey area, when a film crew saw killer whales attacking a grey whale and her calf, and then joined by humpback whales that seemed to be intervening on the side of the victims.
