John Simpson pays tribute to ‘surrogate mother’ Martha Gellhorn

John Simpson celebrates the American war correspondent’s writing from the Spanish Civil War which he describes as ‘beautifully observed and highly accurate’. The BBC’s world affairs editor became close to Martha Gellhorn in her later years and he pays a personal tribute to her in his series on writing from the Spanish Civil War - War of Words.
