Trouble is EVERYBODY gets up early to beat the traffic. If you'd have left late you'd be fine as everybody would already have gone! It's like those Speedy Boarding passes on easyjet; what happens if everyone else buys one?? So realistically you should have left on Monday to ensure you got there on time.
