Mate, I hear ya. I bought it finally, because I wanted to test it on Linux, installed it several times and never could go past the first 2-3 hours. Unlike Doom 3 it is not as tight and focused on what it does and I recognized some assets from the Doom-Game, which made me constantly compare the games in my head instead of enjoying to play it.
Unlike you, I did not like the ridiculous plot, but I do respect the innovative ideas that went into the game. Unfortunately, thats why the dull gameplay was hurting me the more (shooter-fatigue). Talking about it makes me want to install it yet again.
