1 like1 comment“Over the past few months people in Ayios Nikolaos have been raising money for the daughter of a Servicewoman from the base, who’s suffering from an aggressive form of leukaemia. There’s been a charity auction, a golf tournament and a ‘night at the races’, to name just some of the events that have happened in support of five year-old Detzinee Watson. Emily Slater reports for BFBS Radio… ” -

“All last week caffeine lovers around the Forces World put their tea-drinking habits to good use, by getting involved in the SSAFA Big Brew Up. The fundraising event’s an Armed Forces favourite- it happens every year and sees people getting together to enjoy a good, old-fashioned cuppa, to raise money for the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association. Here in Cyprus, the fundraising came in the form of coffee mornings and afternoon teas. It all got going last Monday afternoon with a traditional English afternoon tea in Ayios Nikolaos. Emily Slater’s been catching up with supporters of the Big Brew, here, there and everywhere… ” -

“Health Visitors in the ESBA are looking at ways to improve the service they offer to parents with young children in Ayios Nikolaos. There’s already a Health Zone in Dhekelia, which offers Mums and Dads a relaxed environment in which to meet other new parents and discuss issues surrounding their babies and toddlers. And now the community health nurses are planning to run a similar service in Ay Nik, on an informal basis. Health Visitor Kerry Henderson’s been speaking to BFBS reporter, Emily Slater… ” -

Earlier this week residents in Ay Nik had a stark reminder of just how serious fires can be, as they witnessed two large fires in close proximity to the base, in the space of a couple of days. “ Ten brave women from Ayios Nikolaos have dared to bear all for a charity calendar… The gutsy girls, who’re all on the SSAFA in-service Committee, decided to pose nude for a special wall calendar, which was auctioned off in a silent bid at the station’s recent ‘Auction of Promises’.
