“Back in the day, when I was managing record stores and book stores, I used to work non-stop throughout December, right up to Xmas eve. Not for a while though. I'm now enjoying my last two weeks of leisure, before I return to full-time work in January. It's nice, forgetting what day it is :^)” -

andymooseman I liked the way you mixed those two opposing anniversaries. Give peace a chance is a wonderful idea & one i fully subscribe too. But, there's always someone who wants to mess that idea up!

“Yep. It made sense! And agreed; as tempting as it is, you can only judge people by the standards of their day, and how what they did led us to where we are, even if in small steps.” -

But, like you, it's because I'm comfortable with the equipment. I suppose some people are a little freaked out when they first see microphones and cameras and mixers and things and would prefer the phone, but I want to see the other guy's eyes. Looking forward to the international link going up to buy the CD - I still can't believe you got Claire Hammill!” -

In the end, the $100 saved wasn't going to be worth fighting the crowds (on the road, in the parking lot, at the store), and I decided to leave the new MacBook on my plan for early Spring 2011. In the end, the only thing I purchased was a sandwich and a coffee at a small, out-of-the-mainstream coffee shop. It was a very nice Friday :^)” -

337.711“Great topic... Well, first of all, it's never too late; I think you should go to university now and study something that truly interests you just because you want to, not because it will pay off in a career. And, truly, at any age, that's the only reason to study anything. My own educational journey had a few starts and stops. I took a couple of years of before going to college the first time, then when I did it was to study film & broadcasting - a degree I never finished. I went a few years later again (at 27) to get a degree in Politics, then went on to get a Masters in Public Policy, which is pretty much related to the career I subsequently had in the nonprofit sector. But more important, it was an opportunity to learn how to learn; to explore different ways of looking at the world, analyze options, and arrive at my own, better-informed, conclusions about the way things are, or should be. Your points about someone in their late teens or early 20s having no idea who they'll be later is so true. The ultimate educational system would require four years of work, then a year of study, then four years of work, then a year of study, and so on throughout one's life. I think we'd all be better informed and happier in a situation like that.” -

“Those who avoid people with terminal illnesses have it all wrong. You should be as nice as possible to deathly sick people; it's the best way to be sure you're included in their will! Okay, sorry, sick humor is just another way of dealing with the discomfort of dealing with these issues... Best of luck and positive thoughts to all.” -

I've not gone to the actual site since, but have just seen the ruins of it from the back of a taxi between the airport and downtown. I think I need to go back there. Now.” -

WorldAccordingtoRich Anakin - speaking as someone who is still relatively new to the Twitter world, I can totally relate to what you're saying - I'm still learning the "most effective" way to use Twitter - while it's deceptively simple, it's also hard to get your head around it at first. I've talked until I'm blue in the face with some marketers who see it as only another platform for spam....at the same time, I'm still learning the "best" way to interact in that environment...whatever that means.....
-
kenrg @anakin1814 - Yes, a great night that was, and I though symbolic of the type of real human interaction that social media can lead to. Or you can use it to post links to your products every hour of every day. Your choice ;^)
-
anakin1814 Seeing that picture makes me smile. That was one of many magical nights. :) Interaction is key. I find getting 3 or 4 well-thought out comments a day on my audioboos much more meaningful now than a bunch of sub4sub spam and hate on YouTube. I guess I'm tired of everybody shouting to be heard over there, with only the lowest common denominator winning out. The marketers on Twitter just don't get it. I followed a local wedding photographer a few weeks back. I thought it would be a great way to interact, learn a few things, and make a contact. After 2 months of her tweets only posting links to new photo galleries, with zero interaction, I unfollowed. I wonder if her tweets weren't automated. I have a few close YouTube friends who I noticed would only tweet links to new videos if posted....that's it. Nope. Next. Spam comes in many shapes, sizes, and flavors. What was this comment about??

kenrg @anakin1814 It does seem like a cool site so far - Not a big personality driven thing, just people reading books - What a novelty! And, yes, I'll be reading Shakespeare, but I'll try to hide my Boston accent... "try"
-
anakin1814 I'm with Curt....ANOTHER SITE!!!?!? Cool idea though....it's cool that we're able to supply our voice for something like this! I'd love to hear somebody with a heavy New York accent do a reading of Pride and Prejudice! (Or a Boston accent reading Shakespeare??)
-
kenrg @andymooseman Not just US, worldwide. Not a flashy site, but this could be fun. I've just signed up to read some Shakespeare!

kenrg @_PiP_ It was a wonderful place to be able to spend so much time as a kid - The photo is not mine, but it's pretty much exactly the view from the beach across the street from my Grandmother's house.
-

-
kenrg @anakin1814 Yes, Kevy's a great guy as well as a great musician, so it was fun to go out there to support his event, and then to check in online a few times during the rest of the marathon. I think the final total was around $6,000!
