soundmapMany thanks for adding the 'uksm' tag. Your recording has already been included on the UK SoundMap, but we've had to catch up on our acknowledgements due to the large number of contributions received lately.
syzygyGorgeous sounds - have you considered tagging this to be included in the UK Sound Map? (http://sounds.bl.uk/uksoundmap/index.aspx)
andymooseman@kenrg I do still feel that romance that train travel can bring you. But, i have to be in the right place to feel it. I remember being in Brussels station, a few years ago & certainly feeling that romance then.
I love airports & like you, can quite happily hang around them. Yes, that added security has taken the edge off of it. But, there's nothing quite like the smell of kerosene & just looking at the depatrue board to get those travel juices flowing.
kenrgWell, maybe working on the rails all those years took away some of the romance for you, but the sound of a train in the distance tends to do something to a man's soul that requires a bit of moving around. And I've also always loved watching the planes. Added security in the last decade has ruined some of my fun, but I've always enjoyed hanging around airports. I'm just odd that way.
andymoosemanThe quote by Paul Theroux was actually from his book, "The great railway bazaar" & reads "I have seldom heard a train go by & not wished i was on it".
Glad that's sorted.
FreakyFwoofI wrote this massively long comment and it disappeared. I am very upset. Anyway, I liked this recording and wished more people would record in this way.
Check out the train recording I posted yesterday, with headphones you can almost feel like you're there.
Happy new year.
