TV_ConorMacauleyThe family of Newry man Sean Ruddy has been told his death at the hands of soldiers in 1971 ``shouldn't have happened``. He was shot dead along with 2 others when they tried to steal takings from two bar staff making a deposit in a night safe. An undercover army unit had been posted in the area expecting an IRA bomb attack on the bank. They fired on the three friends as they ran off after the attempted robbery, unarmed and empty handed. The family today published the findings of an Historical Enquiry Team report into the incident which concluded it was a tragedy which should not have happened.
