sm2n Shocking! I can't believe you want a digital solution when you could invent a perfect electronic solution yourself. I'd buy one of the Macolgan Volume Regulators :-)

macolgan Ha ha Simon... doubt I'd be "inventing" something that wasn't already commonplace ! Of course, what we're really talking about here is some form of " digital software controlled volume attenuation " as in a " dithered " set, but - that will allow/accept fixed and maintained presets :)
