    • gegan Very interesting words from Geoff - pity you ran out of time. I think there is an obvious and close relationship between authentic assessment/tasks and the growing interest in challenge based learning. Have a look at http://ali.apple.com/cbl/ and grab some of the papers, including the one from the New Media Consortium.
    • allanadl Welcome to another episode of Between the Buttons. Professor Geoff Crisp is the Director of the Centre for Learning and Professional Development (CLPD) here at the University of Adelaide and we are thrilled that recently he has been awarded a highly prestigious Australian Learning and Teaching Council National Teaching Fellowship placing him among Australia's leaders in the field of learner and teaching. In this episode I asked Geoff about the oh so important subject to the teacher and the learner.... that of assessment. When I was at school and that was a long time ago, assessment meant final exams crash and burn loss of sleep and the realization that in 2 weeks after they finished I may have forgotten most of the memorization. Today assessment is a very different thing. Geoff is a recognized leader in helping teachers and institutions identify the issues in assessing students in a collaborative, distributed, virtual environment such as Second Life, wikis and blogs. We touched on assessment needing to be authentic and interactive. It become obvious near to the five minute limit that this subject is so important to good teaching that we need to do a number of these episodes. ... this one is just the beginning. In fact I must confess I got so engrossed I forgot the 5 minute time limit on AudioBoo .... hopefully it wont happen again :-) Geoff has so much he can talk about in the area of Interactive, authentic e-assessment but we want to hear from you the teacher/educator. Please visit the Buttons Comment Board and talk to us about your issues with implementing meaningful assessment? What type of assessments help your learners/students master the content? Have you any good stories about creative ways to assess that would contribute to the community knowledge build on this important area of learning and teaching? Remember the Buttons Comment Board is at the web address http://tinyurl.com/buttonscomment Please visit there with you computer and listen to the episode again and contribute your thoughts and reflections ... help us build knowledge. Be part of the wisdom!

    • ClaireRaikes LOL - and the moral of this story is, read the small print... Boos must not be longer than 5 mins huh? Ah well, all I was going to say was, your passion may not be be something that you 'love' (like painting, speedway, storm-chasing etc), it could be something that is borne out of a crisis or awakening too.:) PS. Will try to avoid wind noise next time too.
