bulldoziaBinaural recording, 19 June 2011. Watching part of Christian Marclay's The Clock, a 24-hour montage of thousands of film and TV clips that reference times of the day or the passage of time. As well as the soundtrack, you can also hear sounds from outside the exhibition space (particularly the cafe-bar downstairs), of people entering and leaving, the whispering of an usher, and my four-year-old companion spotting the appearance of clocks and watches on screen.
soundmapYears ago I went in there and asked for advice on keeping tropical fish. The man told me what good species were to start off with, neon tetras and the like.
"If you keep big fish in the same tank as little ones, won't they eat them?" I asked.
He looked at me and raised his eyebrows. "Course they will. Law of the jungle intit."
bulldoziaBInaural recording, lunchtime Mon 20th June 2011. One of my favourite shops, Boyd's Aquarium on Chisholm Street, in a diminishing pocket of ungentrified central Glasgow. Just browsing this time.
gombassaI recorded this in 1999 as part of my sound design course at LCP, in binaural on a Tascam DAT in 48k,using two Sennheiser k6 mics with omniheads, mounted on a stand with spacer bar, usinga couple of big hardback books as the 'head'component. I was positioned in the centre of the road with the poles at a right angle to the traffic movement to maximise the stereo 3d effect. Best listened to with headphones.
