sarahanglissHere's my first attempt to record the waves as they crash over the pebbles at Brighton beach. This was recorded on the Kemp Town side of the Palace Pier around 6 o'clock in the morning.
I tried to pick up the sounds of the pebbles being pulled along the beach by the retreating waves. I also wanted to pick up the froth that fizzes as the wave retreats.
This was recorded early one morning, May 2010, using two omnidirectional mics, spaced around 40cm apart. The mics were shielded by acoustic foam and a pair of tights, stretched across armature wire, to cut out the considerable wind noise. This is the resulting recording, without any eq or stereo enhancement. Keen eared listeners may be able to detect that these are black, 40 denier opaques from Marks & Spencer.
