Ernmandersorry last line should read: It is a hard time for local newspapers, but I would prefer it if folk went out and brought their local newspaper, so that the local newspaper can also develop the online content and Twitter/AudioBoo streams. Then for local folk to hook into all the online content the paper produces. This way there is that bond
ErnmanderI wonder if it is a society thing. We as individuals are off chasing the Pound or Dollar and forget our part in our communities too. I cannot remember the last time I saw someone help someone in the street with heavy shopping bags or something (oops wait yep I can that would be me) but you know what I mean.
Maybe the local papers have gauged this and thought sod it lets just aim for revenue, and chuck some stories into the advertising rag too <generalisation>
Maybe I am old fashioned, I would love for the return of the days when you said hello to everyone instead of worrying if you have the correct stab vest on for the day.
I believe that the local newspaper can be that champion the one who reports on the local news. Then also champions the local area and stands up for it.
It is a hard time for the local papers, but I would prefer it if folk went out and brought their local newspaper.
MeliaThat's a great point. I wonder when it changed. Was it all about getting the revenue to keep the paper going and so something was lost along the way?
MartinKossCouldn't agree more Ern! It's like 'top' twitterers and 'top' Facebook people who may have loads of cling ons but rarely actually engage with those said cling ons. 'Top' should mean 'most active' not most followed.
