BreakthroughBCFundraiser runs her way onto Breakthrough Breast Cancer’s £1000 Challenge Wall
A fundraiser from Bicester visited Breakthrough Breast Cancer’s Research Centre for the unveiling of the charity’s £1000 Challenge Wall on 17th July. Christine Fisher was inspired to raise funds for the charity after being diagnosed with the disease and did a range of events, including running and walking events and local cake sales.
Christine decided to take up the challenge of raising £1000 for Breakthrough after her own diagnosis and following the diagnosis of a friend. She managed to reach her target through doing the Moonwalk, running events, a local fun walk and through hosting cake sales at work. She has raised nearly £2000 for her challenge.
Christine said: “I am thrilled to have completed the £1000 Challenge. Completing the challenge was hard work but I am pleased to be able to come here today to see the important work that the doctors and researchers are doing.
“It’s a great achievement and I would encourage everyone else to take part in Breakthrough’s £1000 Challenge.”
Breakthrough Breast Cancer’s £1000 Challenge is the charity’s flagship fundraising campaign and encourages fundraisers to come up with innovative ways to raise money. After raising £1000 Challengers are honoured with a dedicated name on the wall at Breakthrough Breast Cancer’s Research Centre at The Institute of Cancer Research, where scientists work to develop pioneering new breast cancer treatments.
At the unveiling ceremony Sara had the chance to see her chosen name on the wall and took a tour of the Research Centre to see how the money raised is being spent.
Professor Alan Ashworth, Director of the Breakthrough Breast Cancer Research Centre, said: “Everyone who becomes a Challenger makes a real difference.
It is only through the support of these individual fundraisers that we can find new treatments to help eradicate breast cancer for good. We want to continue to make progress quickly and can only achieve this through more people fundraising for us.”
The Breakthrough £1,000 Challenge has raised £15 million with over 7,000 people reaching the milestone. The most common ways to make the money are holding fundraising stalls, balls and parties, quiz nights, lunches and coffee mornings.
