macolganThanks Ian and I do agree about the iphone's mic.. it is pretty damn good actually. It's wind and extrenious wind noises etc that can ruin a good audio / boo.
Know what you mean about the err's and umm's etc... one never notices these when recording but come across like missiles on playback lol.
mac.
iankathMac,
I'm only using the iPhone 4S as you're using. But…
Being in Berlin with non native english speakers I notice that I've slowed a little and I'm concentrating on pronouncing the words correctly. I've softened my Australian accent a little also.
All that and the continuing discipline of wanting to speak without the umms, arghs and repeats may give you the illusion that I'm using something special. You'll notice that often the wind makes a noise and my foot falls on the road and traffic sometimes get in the way but I like recording while on the street. There's something meditative about it.
So nothing special. The mic in the iPhone very good anyway.
macolganIan.. would be interested to know if you use any special equipment when recording... they always sound so clear @iankath
soundmapHi Alasdair, thanks for all these recordings and for adding such useful tags. We've asked people (though not very prominently!) to apply standard tags, other than 'uksm', such as urban, suburban, rural, home, office, industrial, travel, leisure, education, health, religion. Also feel free to comment on your own boos. The research community tell us that the value of this resource will be enhanced greatly by recording how the sounds are perceived, e.g. pleasant, unpleasant, intrusive, calming, annoying, etc. Chris uksm@bl.uk
