    • cyberdoyle Defra may want farmers online to fill in the CTS (cattle movement service) databases and other things, but they do naff all about getting access to the farmers. Their main interest since labeckett days seems to be with protecting voles and other cuddly hedgedwellers. They seem happy to let us import all our food. Anyway, back to the topic of this boo... I think the thing to do in this village is to get some fibre to them, then let them distribute it themselves, I wish someone would give our village 50 grand, it would go halfway to providing FTTH for the whole village! I think individual contributions would do the rest. Having broadband to your property is better than having money in the bank. It increases the value of the residence apart from all the brilliant things a family can do when they have online access. Your audio boo could have been done in virtually any village in the country. They are all without decent access unless they are next to an exchange. (as you know) We have fantastic infrastructure round here via Lancs and Cumbria County councils but they won't share their toys. I think in areas of BT market failure that councils could be exempt from EU directives and support their communities in the same way that Kent is doing. What do you think? I think the level of £50k or whatever it is should be increased, or no level specified. If they are 'sharing' their infrastructure then they aren't actually incurring a cost, just saving the community the exorbitant charges of a telco (I was quoted £76k pa from BT just to get fibre to the area) chris
    • tamegoeswild Brian, sitting on a train in Tokyo listening to your boo. What an amazing thing this is. What you said reminds me of the problems my home village in Herefordshire faces, and contrasts sharply with the access I have here where the 3g network outpaces the broadband I had back home. hope the UK catches up! Joseph
