    • nottspolice Police have released images of the injuries sustained by an 81-year-old robbery victim as part of a public appeal to trace her attacker. Isabel Skeldon, from Mansfield, was walking along Edward Avenue, in Sutton-in-Ashfield, at around 1.15pm on Monday 6 September when a man assaulted her and snatched her handbag. She sustained a fracture to her right upper arm, and cuts and bruising to her face and hands, and is currently receiving treatment at King’s Mill Hospital. Mrs Skeldon, who was on her way to visit her 89-year-old sister when the attack happened, may now require surgery for her fractured arm. Her handbag, which is black and around 5ins by 3ins with a long shoulder strap and a metal clasp, contained her purse, with an unknown quantity of cash. The attacker is believed to be a white male who may have left the scene in a red car in the direction of Priestsic Road. Detective Inspector Martin Putnar, of Sutton CID, said: “This was a frankly despicable and cowardly attack by the standards of any criminal. This individual has targeted a vulnerable elderly lady and left her with some very nasty injuries, and they must be caught. “I would urge anyone who saw or knows anything about this appalling crime to contact us as a matter of urgency. Similarly, if anyone recognises the description of someone they know, or even themselves, as a white male with a red car who was in this area at the time, I would encourage them to come forward too in order to eliminate themselves from our enquiries.” Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Sutton CID on 0300 300 99 99, ext 806 3636. Alternatively, they can call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

    • nottspolice It was the year that Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer married, MTV first aired, the average house price was £24,188 and crime in Nottinghamshire was under 89,000 offences. Now validated statistics for the last financial year show that Nottinghamshire Police has recorded its lowest crime figures since 1981. The force has achieved another 14.2 per cent reduction in crime, compared to the previous year, down 13,990 crimes. While in 1981, the force recorded 88,927 offences, this year there has been 84,329 offences. Offences of burglary, robbery, criminal damage, vehicle crime, and violence have also dropped dramatically throughout 2010/11. A 26.2 per cent reduction in burglary means 2,065 fewer people have been victims. While there has been 2,463 fewer vehicle crimes (- 23.1 per cent), 4,377 fewer offences of criminal damage (- 21.9 per cent), a reduction of 473 robbery offences (-24.5 per cent) and reductions of 235 most serious violence offences (- 27.7 per cent) and 3,142 fewer victims of assault with less serious injury (- 29.4 per cent). In addition to crime reductions, the force has also seen an increase in the number of crimes detected, which means more criminals are being arrested and put before the court. Since 1 April, the force has gone from four to two divisions. However, all four divisional areas saw crime fall. Mansfield and Ashfield (A division) saw a drop of 4,152 offences, down 19.6 per cent; Bassetlaw, Newark and Sherwood (B division) reduced crime by 19.3 per cent (14,093), the city’s crime fell by 3,954 offences (9.8 per cent) and South Notts (D division) recorded a 12.9 per cent reduction – 2,512 fewer crimes. Here, ACC Paul Broadbent says thank you to the people of Nottinghamshire who have helped to bring about such significant crime reductions. • drwh0 OMG. I picked this up on Tumblr this morning and reblogged. Being a fan of Brit TV, I knew what you mean by spanner, but how one would use that to remove a roof, I'm nut sure. But I'm laughing with you and offering my condolences at the same time. You're much calmer than a Yank would typically be in these circumstances. We'd be going after the guy in the white panel (transit) van with the wrench (spanner), rather than talking calmly to the lawyer (solicitor). "I'm a blogger, I'm going to talk about it." Too funny. May it all work out well. Keep us posted.
