    • soulbruthas Check out this remix of the new release by Soulbrothas Sold Out and take a moment to consider the following: The representative body of World football, FIFA, has never been held in such low regard. The recent debacle over the right to host the World Cup in 2018 and 2022 is a case in point that grossly undermined the legitimacy of the people currently at the top. Allegations of corruption against senior officials within the Executive Committee call into question the integrity not only of those specific individuals, FIFA's President, Sepp Blatter, but the institution as a whole. In addition, with Qatar winning the right to host the 2022 World Cup, we now face the prospect of a World Cup in December/January rather than June/July as it will be too hot to play during the height of summer in the Middle East. This will cause great upheaval to the European leagues and perhaps should have exercised itself more thoroughly on the minds of the Executive Committee before the Qatari bid was considered seriously. The FIFA Presidential elections on 1st June 2011 is the first step to change the way that World football is run: to make it more democratic, transparent and accountable. Clubs will soon be expected to comply with Financial Fair Play (in an attempt to rein in the power of the richest clubs to skew competition by limiting the amount each can reasonably spend on transfers and salaries). The clubs should use their collective might to avoid such a change in the structure of the game without root and branch reform of the upper echelons of FIFA. Although Financial Fair Play is a laudable endeavour, whilst representatives at FIFA get away with commanding vast bribes and kickbacks, the espousal of these virtues will smack with hypocrisy and leave a lasting, empty bitterness. With a concerted effort, Football was able to kick out Racism. With recent events in Scotland, Sectarianism should be next for the boot. Corruption should be treated with the same scorn and vehemence. Not to do so will bring the game into disrepute and make a mockery of a game hundreds of millions of people hold dear.
