ecohealth2003In the 1970's, much of Zee Charnoe's technological inventiveness was directed towards protected and controlled environment cropping systems. The system he produced in Scotland, through his company, Devatron, was called the PHYTOTRONIC HYDROPONICUM. Based upon generalized nutritional needs of people, if scaled up, the Phytotronic Hydroponicum could feed 33,000 people on 2.4 acres.
At the same time, he researched the work of J. Sholto Douglas. After the death of Christine MacKenzie, in 1977, Zee dedicated time to showing people on fixed incomes how to grow healthy food for themselves. Not only are seeds modest in cost and readily available, but the resultant veggies and sprouts are some of the healthiest foods.
