Don't bury the lead
Do your own usability testing. Paying an expert isn't enough
Your users don't care
I find that I slip into thinking people (clients) care more than they do when it comes to accessibility and coding issues. They just care that it works.
What are the defaults on your website?
Great Boo, but the 'remember me' box is possibly not the best example you could give. I work on the universal sign in system for the BBC and we choose not to tick the box by default specifically. Trust me, everything has been laboured over meticulously even down to that level. The reason is mainly for the security implications involved in case the user is on a public or shared computer. We want them to actively say they want this behaviour as doing it automatically they may not realise that it's happening which could compromise their account.
Hi Paul, On my current contact page I only have a small form. At the end i put a dropdown and ask: Is this message time sensitive? Guess what's the default? "No, take your time." Muaahaa. :) Works like a charm. Greetings from Germany Oliver
