baamenabarPaul's view is true for most cases, it's very annoying to go to a site that's supposed to have a mobile version but it turns out to be iPhone only and if you are in a blackberry you get the heavy site with literally a hundred pictures to download in your phone. But in some cases like tumblr, the perfect version is the desktop browser version, because it is lightweight and streamlined it doesn't need a mobile version.
skattyadzIf you make a design that's nice on all mobile platforms, the market share of each platform becomes irrelevant.
guywebGood advice Paul. Iphone is still a niche / minority device here in the UK and Europe. Nokia/Symbian still outsell it by miles. Android and Blackberry's are more popular because they are more affordable than the iPhone. So if your site is not targeting high-end users then you'd want to avoid doing an iPhone specific site as it wont deliver a return on investment. It's definitely more cost effective to develop a mobile site that will work on a wide range of devices.
