The annual Nations and Regions Media Conference was founded in 1993.
The aim of the conference is to focus on policy, production and opportunity for broadcast media industries in the nations and regions, including providing and sharing local information. The conference has been key in influencing and supporting such important milestones as the introduction of out of London production quotas, the decentralisation of the BBC and the BBC’s move to Salford Quays.
Since 1993 the conference has grown substantially in size and reputation. In 2002 the conference moved to the Lowry Centre and in 2010, over 600 delegates passed through the conference doors over the 2 day event. During the lifetime of the conference virtually every senior figure in UK broadcasting has appeared on the platform. It fills a unique niche in the broadcasting calendar and has become part of the fabric of the debate about the future of British Broadcasting.
