xesands Have you ever wondered what it might sound like if a narrator had a tantrum over the constant extraneous noise she has to record around? There are days when the occasional plane goes by and I, in my infinite patience, smile serenely as I pause my recording for a moment. And then there was yesterday. Yesterday, it seemed as if there was a constant parade of the flying mechanical beasts of burden bellowing just above my roof. Immediately after tweeting that if another plane flew over and interrupted me, I was going to scream, and that, further, I would record that scream and save it as a memento of my frustration...well, of course another plane did, in fact, immediately fly over. And then another, and so on... So I decided that the best way to deal with this frustration would be to just let the tantrum OUT. (well, after the initial swearing was over - call this a re-enactment, if you will). So here, presented for our collective amusement, is a narrator's tantrum. Enjoy!

“Stephen Dunn reaches me in a way most poets can't - his poems simply slide beneath my skin when I'm looking elsewhere. "The Answers," which appears in "The Insistence of Beauty," (published by W. W. Norton) perfectly captures that moment when all is being discussed without being explained, the truths and lies we tell ourselves. In recording this bit of Dunn, I realized that the opposing lines were simply made to be read by Robin Sachs, and that our voices would work well together to carry Dunn's intent. I asked, he agreed, and this is what we came up with. Enjoy! "The Insistence of Beauty" can be purchased directly from W. W. Norton: http://bit.ly/qXqwHg” -
