A fascinating story, and I have to admit (as an atheist) that I am humbled by your willingness to tackle the issue of the Catholic Church's treatment of gay people from within by reasoned discussion rather than from without by polemic.

@syzygy thanks James ;) ...I remember thinking, through the correspondence and encounter with him, that he seemed as much defeated by the situation as I was, which may have been the basis of the kindness we discovered for each other in our brief exchange.
